We use it to test lots of serial port and network communication protocols. Here will show you how to use Comm Operator to test Pelco D protocol.<\/p>\n<p>Pelco D protocol is a popular control protocol for Pan\/ Tilt\/ Zoom camera or Pan\/Tilt head. You don\u2019t need to calculate the checksum for each command. The Checksum will be added and sent out automatically in Comm Operator.<\/p>\n<p>1. Be sure you have Pelco D PTZ Camera or Pan\/Tilt head connected with your computer by RS232 serial port or USB.<\/p>\n<p>2. Download, install and launch Comm Operator software.<\/p>\n<p>3. Those are the Byte 1 to Byte 6 for Pelco D commands.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.serialporttool.com\/sptblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/image-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Comm Operator - Edit Structured Data\" style=\"display: inline\" alt=\"Comm Operator - Edit Structured Data\" src=\"http:\/\/www.serialporttool.com\/sptblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/image_thumb-2.png\" width=\"861\" height=\"291\"><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click <strong>New Var <\/strong>button to add checksum. This is the Byte 7. Checksum is the sum of Byte 2 to Byte 6, that is Address, Command 1, Command 2, Data 1 and Data 2.&nbsp; <!--EndFragment--><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.serialporttool.com\/sptblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/image-3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Comm Operator - Edit Structured Data - Checksum\" style=\"display: inline\" alt=\"Comm Operator - Edit Structured Data - Checksum\" src=\"http:\/\/www.serialporttool.com\/sptblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/image_thumb-3.png\" width=\"635\" height=\"506\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>6. After above editing, you will get <strong>Quick Send \u2013 Structured Data<\/strong> panel special for Pelco D protocol.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.serialporttool.com\/sptblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/image-4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Comm Operator - Quick Send - Structured Data - Pelco D Command\" style=\"display: inline\" alt=\"Comm Operator - Quick Send - Structured Data - Pelco D Command\" src=\"http:\/\/www.serialporttool.com\/sptblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/image_thumb-4.png\" width=\"754\" height=\"297\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>7. It\u2019s ready to send Pelco D command. The default address is 1. It\u2019s editable.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Edit Command 1, Command 2, Data 1 and Data 2 according to Pelco D commands<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Send<\/strong> button, the checksum will be added to the end of send data automatically<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.serialporttool.com\/sptblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/image-5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Comm Operator - Quick Send - Structured Data - Pelco D Command - Checksum\" style=\"display: inline\" alt=\"Comm Operator - Quick Send - Structured Data - Pelco D Command - Checksum\" src=\"http:\/\/www.serialporttool.com\/sptblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/image_thumb-5.png\" width=\"860\" height=\"385\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you check the option <strong>Add to List, <\/strong>you will see the command is also added to the <strong>Send Data List<\/strong>. You can modify the Name for it by <strong>Edit<\/strong> it.<\/p>\n<p>8. Follow the step 7, you can have Pelco D command list in several minutes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.serialporttool.com\/sptblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/image-6.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Comm Operator - Pelco D Commands\" style=\"display: inline\" alt=\"Comm Operator - Pelco D Commands\" src=\"http:\/\/www.serialporttool.com\/sptblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/image_thumb-6.png\" width=\"686\" height=\"588\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>9. For some extended commands, like Set Pan\/Tilt\/Zoom absolute position, you can use Comm Operator built-in Calculator to get the hexadecimal data for MSB and LSB.<\/p>\n<p>For example:&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong>Set 90 degree for Pan position<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to the instruction of Pelco D protocol manual, Pan position is given in hundredths of a degree and has a range from 0 to <font face=\"Arial\">35999<\/font> (decimal). The value to set pan 90 degrees should be <font face=\"Arial\">9000<\/font>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click the icon to open <strong>Calculator<\/strong> panel<\/li>\n<li>Input <strong><font face=\"Arial\">9000<\/font>, <\/strong>click <strong>Update<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Output <strong>Hex <font face=\"Arial\">0x2328<\/font> <\/strong>for <strong>Decimal <font face=\"Arial\">9000<\/font><\/strong>&nbsp;\n<ul>\n<li><strong><font face=\"Arial\">23<\/font> <\/strong>is MSB in hexadecimal, it\u2019s for Data 1<\/li>\n<li><strong><font face=\"Arial\">28<\/font> <\/strong>is LSB in hexadecimal, it\u2019s for Data 2<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.serialporttool.com\/sptblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/image-7.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Comm Operator - Pelco D - Set Pan Position - Calculator\" style=\"display: inline\" alt=\"Comm Operator - Pelco D - Set Pan Position - Calculator\" src=\"http:\/\/www.serialporttool.com\/sptblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/image_thumb-7.png\" width=\"589\" height=\"692\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>10. If you send Query Tilt Position and receive the return value, you can also use the Calculator to get the decimal data for the tilt position. Here shows the return MSB and LSB <font face=\"Arial\"><strong>0x1080<\/strong><\/font>.
