How to Access Relay Timer Remotely?

Relay Timer  is programmable timer software to control ProXR relay controller boards of National Control Devices. It supports 1 ProXR relay board and up to 15 extension boards with 16-channel on each. It’s fit for controlling lights, motors, pumps, bells, audio, video and other applications related with home automation, science experiment, industry control, energy conservation and so on. Powerful schedule setting make it possible to control anything!

You can control your relays connected with your computer locally. The relays can also be controlled remotely from other computer, because Relay Timer has a built in web server.

Here are the steps to access Relay Timer remotely.

1. You need run Relay Timer on a computer, here we call it Computer 1.

2. You need to enable the option ”Remote Access” on Configuration panel.

3. You need to get the IP address of Computer 1, here it’s 192.168.0.35.

4. Then, you can access Relay Timer from other computer by visiting the IP address through any internet browser. You may be asked to input the password, if it has been set.

Now, you can control your relays from any other computer as long as the computer is connected with internet or private networks, such as your home or work network.

If Port Number is 80, you just need to type the IP address in the browser, shown as below. If Port Number is modified, you need add the number after the IP address, such as, 192.168.0.35:8080.

How to Launch Relay Timer with Command Line?

Relay Timer v2.4 supports command line operation. It can be launched with a specified configuration file or schedule setting file.

Command Format:

  • "Path to RelayTimer.exe" -c "Path to *.cfg"
  • "Path to RelayTimer.exe" -as "Path to *.asch"

Note:

The parameter "-c" is to launch a new Relay Timer instance with the specified configuration file (*.cfg). Both the contents in Configuration dialog and all Relay Setting dialogs will be loaded.  If the *.cfg file does not exist, it will be created in the specified path automatically. After editing the Configuration dialog and Setting dialogs, the information will be saved to the created *.cfg file. When the command is run next time, all information will be loaded.

The parameter ”-as” is to launch a new Relay Timer instance with the schedule setting file (*.asch). The content of Relay Setting dialog for all relays on all boards will be loaded.  All information will be saved in the default configuration file. When Relay Timer is launched by Icon on desktop or start menu, it loads the default configuration file. When you run this command, you need make sure the current default configuration file is same as when the *.asch file was saved.

Click Windows Start -> Run and open cmd.exe.

Type the command with parameters.

To control your relay with Relay Timer R16X, you need connect your relay board with your computer and Set Configuration in Relay Timer R16X to make sure the connection is available. You need to select the type of your relay board and the connection way.

Select Enable Control Remotely checkbox. Set the Port Number or keep default value 80.

Select Password to set password for remote access.

How to Customize Relay Status Automatically with Relay Timer R16X?

To control your relay with Relay Timer R16X, you need connect your relay board with your computer and Set Configuration in Relay Timer R16X to make sure the connection is available. You need to select the type of your relay board and the connection way.

The status of the relay can be customized except only on or off during the setting time.

For example, relay can be on 10 minutes, off 5 minutes within one hour, and on 20 minutes and off 10 minutes within the other one hour. This can be set as steps below.

Step1. Click Relay Timer R16X -Setting button on the Relay Control Panel to open Relay Setting dialog.

Step 2. Click Add button to open Schedule Setting dialog. Edit the Schedule Name, set Schedule Time(2 hours), select Recurrence Pattern and Range.

Step 3. Click Customize Action or the edit button beside it to open Customize Action dialog.

Step 4. Click Add button to open Add Action dialog.

Set Turn On 10 minutes, Turn Off 5 minutes and Loop Count 4.

Click OK to return Customize Action dialog. The action will be shown in the list.

Step 5. Click Add button to open Add Action dialog again.

Set Turn On 20 minutes, Turn Off 10 minutes and Loop Count 2.

Click OK to return Customize Action dialog. The action will also be shown in the list.

Click OK button to return Schedule Setting dialog and then return to Relay Setting dialog.

The relay will be turned on/off automatically according to the customized setting.

To control relay automatically, the schedule of relay status must be set at first.

Click Relay Timer R16X - Setting button on the Relay Control Panel to open Relay Setting dialog.

The relay can be given a name here.

Click Add button to open Schedule Setting dialog.

Edit the Schedule Name, select Relay Status, set Schedule Time, select Recurrence Pattern and Range.

Click OK to return Relay Setting dialog.

Different schedules can be added by this way.

The relay will be turned on/off automatically according to the schedule list.

It’s very easy to control relay manually. You just need to click the switch button to turn on or turn off relay.

Click Relay Timer R16X - Manual button down Relay Timer R16X - Manual to step into manual mode.

Click the switch button Relay Timer R16X - Switch to turn on the relay. The light becomes green.

Click the switch button Relay Timer R16X - Switchto turn off the relay. The light becomes red.

In order to control your device (relay board) with Relay Timer R16X, be sure to install the application on your PC and then connect the relay board with your PC. You need select the type of your relay board and the connection way. There are two ways for connection, Com Port and Network.

Select the connection method that the relay board is connected to.

Click OK to finish setting.
